“Illusion of Focus” is an immersive, interactive installation that delves into the psychological spotlight effect—the belief that we are more closely observed by others than we truly are. The space transforms this internal bias into a tangible experience, blending reflective surfaces, dynamic lighting, dynamic identification, and soundscapes.

Upon entering, participants find themselves surrounded by walls of tin foil and mirrors, which reflect and amplify their movements. A camera tracks their motion, and a spotlight follows, creating the sensation of being in constant focus. The auditory environment intensifies this feeling, with whispers echoing in the space, mimicking imagined judgment or commentary. Participants can interact by controlling the whispers' intensity with hand gestures near the camera, symbolizing their ability to influence their internal perceptions of scrutiny.

This project challenges visitors to confront the discrepancy between reality and their perceived prominence, offering an introspective journey into the mind's tendency to magnify self-awareness.
